Ceremony Held at West Kittanning Bridge
The Armstrong County Commissioners and other state and local leaders were on hand today (Thursday, October 23, 2008) to conduct a ceremonial event marking the completion of the West Kittanning Road Project.
Commissioner Patricia Kirkpatrick chaired the ceremony, which lasted thirty minutes. State Representative Jeff Pyle (R-60th District) and State Senator Don White (R-41st District) both praised the Commonwealth for their commitment in funding and oversight of the project.
Commissioner James Scahill (pictured right) reminisced about the beginning of the project.
Applewold Borough President Mark Feeney commended Walsh Construction Company of Canonsburg for their intense cooperation during the project.
Although the project was originally slated for 18 months, Walsh committed to having the new bridge open within less than 9 months of the original bridge closing of March 17, 2008. The project utilized accelerated bidding incentives to allow the bridge to be constructed in less than half the time of conventional bidding processes.
The bridge is a 4-span continuous multi-girder bridge actually built on property of three municipalities: Applewold Borough, East Franklin Township, and West Kittanning Borough.
Although no one would comment on the exact time of completion, the roadway was opened prior to the morning traffic commute on Friday, October 24th.
